This series of original artwork is based around a traditional old world nursery rhyme about a very striking and intelligent bird - The Magpie. First recorded around 1780 in Britain, the rhyme has many versions today, in many different cultures. One example states: One for sorrow, Two for joy, Three for a girl, Four for a boy, Five for silver, Six for gold, Seven for a secret Never to be told. According to a widespread folk belief dependant on the number of visible magpies, one may be in for good fortune or bad. There are so many versions in so many cultures, that it is truly up to personal belief on the symbolic meaning.
